2008 DSLR Review - The Hits and Misses of the Year

2008 was an interesting year for DSLR's and photographers in general, even if you ignore the ultra-high-end announcements from Leica, Hassleblad and Red. The three main players in the DSLR space (Nikon and Canon, each with around 40% market share and Sony with around 10%) all started milestone cameras. Below we present in detail their hits and misses.

Nikon

After their pioneering publications in 2007 with the Nikon D3 and D300, they set the bar highfor the year 2008, but generally does not disappoint with four new committees:

Nikon D60

Although not revolutionary, the Nikon D60 replaces the D40x in Nikon's consumer lineup, into a smaller, better package had made it one of the smallest and lightest DSLR 's ever.

Nikon D700

Coming almost a complete surprise, the Nikon D700 was launched in mid-summer, with the 12-megapixel full-frame sensor from the flagship D3, but with a body like the D300. At$ 3,000, the camera was Nikon's commitment to FX, and the camera is now the choice for many professionals who do not need weather sealing or the advanced features of the D3 (for example) wedding photographers.

But within months of its release, came out of the Sony A900 with a 24 megapixel full-frame sensor for the same MSRP and the Canon 5D Mark II came with a 21-megapixel full-frame sensor and 1080p HD video for $ 2700.

While the D700 is still theComplete Package (best autofocus, argue the best dosage and for the vast majority, 12 megapixels much), it has come under strong pressure from the higher-megapixel competitors. Only four months after their release, prices have fallen 25% street, down to the range $ 2300 for a U.S. model.

Nikon D90

Instead of the D80 has Nikon's lineup, the Nikon D90 the sensor from the renowned D300, has slightly improved on her video and she packed into a smaller, lighter bodywith scene modes, and a basic autofocus and metering.

The Nikon D90 was the world's first DSLR HD video capture function to his 720p/24 fps mode. But a few weeks later, Canon announced a much more complete video, with its Canon 5D Mark II, video, and remains the weakest feature on the D90 lacks autofocus and only give very little control over key elements such exposure.

At $ 999, which helped companies to Nikon's consumer lineup, through the creation of aideal advanced consumer DSLR in the Nikon D90.

Nikon D3x

After years of rumors, Nikon finally announced that the high-megapixel camera, the 24-megapixel Nikon D3x.

The camera immediately resulted in a backlash, with its $ 8000 price point was the time of publication about double the price of the Nikon D3. This is the only noise was fueled further when she revealed the only significant differences between the D3 and D3x were the sensorand a slightly improved EXPEED processor, with the fact Sony can a DSLR with the same size / megapixel sensor for only 3,000 U.S. dollars to make.

This camera is all to the studio / landscape photographers, and first tests have shown that the sensor cleaner at high ISO's than the Sony (but similar) with the 5D Mark II, which has fewer megapixels. So, as long as it is clearly an impressive camera, remains to be seen to be justified and in fact, many photographersthe price tag.

Canon

Besides a few DSLR's, can have two big releases in 2008.

Canon EOS 50D

The 40D, featured the Canon 50D Replacing a 15-megapixel sensor 1.6 crop, making it the highest pixel density available today, (equivalent to a 39-megapixel full-frame sensor).

But the first point was not particularly positive. Because of the high pixel density, the camera suffers more from the effects of diffraction, not have the high ISO capability of many hoped it would, and outlines the issues with lenses longer than any predecessor. Nevertheless, it remains a solid camera at the current price of just over $ 1,000.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Probably the most important release of the year, offers the Canon 5D replacement of a 21-megapixel full-frame sensor, ISO functions like the new Nikon D3x, and it was the first DSLR full 1080p HD video capture function. Despitesome initial problems (like the infamous "black dot" problem), for $ 2700 Canon offers an amazing feature set, and seems a house with what is probably the best prosumer package on the market today and have taken steps to run .

Sony

After solidification of the consumer lineup, Sony went to the prosumer market with the Sony A900 with a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor for under 3,000 U.S. dollars.

Sony A900

The camera lacks basicFeatures about today's expected DSLR's like Live View, but the next camera with 24 megapixels to get is the $ 8000 Nikon D3x. However, the greatest competition is coming from the Canon 5D Mark II, which has a slightly lower resolution to 21 megapixels, but more than made up for it with its lower $ 2,700 price tag, full 1080p HD video mode and features like Live View.

While clearly an impressive camera to a stable price point, if you do not really need the higher resolution, it would be verydifficult to get the Sony in the canyon.

Abstract

With groundbreaking cameras Nikon D3x, Nikon D90, Canon 50D and Canon 5D Mark II, 2008 consolidated full-frame sensors on the market, witnessed a continued push towards higher megapixels, and saw the introduction of video-on-DSLR s. "

We are pleased to be 2009, a interesting year. With adverse economic conditions and fierce competition for market share, we should see prices fall, and hassuch as video-style make for some interesting, if not groundbreaking cameras in the near future.

Electronic Prices and the Yen

Everyone is aware of the current financial disaster, and this is a great influence on the price of electronic goods, including the DSLR's have in the coming months. First, we are on the driving forces in the markets that prices will have an impact, then what we expected in terms of price and how to respond to manufacturers such as Nikon and Canon.

The current economic chaos, massively complex, the purpose of this article does not go into the intricaciesthe problem, but (we start with a very high level view of explanation, we are not even speak the 30,000 ft view here, we speak of the opinion) from space with a mediocre pair of binoculars.

The five leading economies in 2007, according to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) were:

United States ($ 13.8 billion)

Japan ($ 4.3 trillion)

Germany ($ 3.3 trillion)

China ($ 3.2 trillion)

United Kingdom (2.8 trillion dollars)

Of these, USA has had the dollar Japan yen,Germany is the euro zone is not publicly traded China has one currency, and the United Kingdom has the pound. Traditionally, the dollar is the first choice of foreign exchange reserves were (China currently has about 2 trillion U.S. dollars of capital, for example), followed by the yen - the bigger the economy behind the currency, and the more committed to free markets, the government behind the economy, feel more certain that currency is. However, with the introduction of the euro a few years ago, which is supportedby Germany, the 3rd largest economy), France, Italy and Spain (6., 7 and 8.) (where a number of other European countries managed centrally if the European Central Bank (ECB), the euro began to be taken seriously .

With the introduction of the euro, and strain on the U.S. economy over the past year or more, the euro is increasingly used as a reserve currency, which countries and organizations with large currency reserves to some diversification against dollarRisk, support a currency by some serious business. This flow of currency from the dollar to the euro is one of the main causes for the week of dollars in recent years.

The current crisis has launch in the U.S., but the problem has spread worldwide, and this is the first hard test for the euro have been. The fundamental problem with the euro is that, given the centuries of history, the European governments are almost always asked nationalist interests ahead of European interests. A few weeks ago, Irelandmoved to guarantee all bank deposits in its national banks. The ECB had already stated its policy against this criticism and Germany sharply on the road. But the move led to a massive movement of deposits from German and other European banks to Irish banks. Thus, Germany was in a very difficult situation, and in an effort to stop the flow of money from the system, went to the ECB and guaranteed bank deposits as Ireland.

This signals a fundamental weakness of theEuro, in particular, demonstrated the lack of control or even influence the ECB on its members. From the perspective of Germany, your country is in trouble and your constituents are in pain, what is more important - acting in the best interest of Europe (and as the largest economy in the euro, which will help to shore up with, the weaker countries in the euro - ask) or nationalist interests first and take care of your country and electoral base first - not a difficult decision for an electedPoliticians.

The net effect of making the euro less attractive to the cash reserves - the combination of the lack of control of the ECB and the actions of the nation makes the euro less predictable, so money flows from and into other currencies.

Where does the money go? Much of it goes to the dollar, the dollar was stronger against the euro. The U.S. may have started the current mess, but they are still the largest economy and a pro-active role of the state, expects the U.S. to restore the first, is still a reasonable bet. However, Japan's second largest economy, and despite the volatility in the equity markets, basically they are not as bad a shape as the U.S., so they also look like a safe haven. Proportionately more money flows into the yen, even more so the yen against the euro but also against the dollar. Where else will you keep your cash reserves to? Certainly not a small country like Iceland.

So, how isThis will impact on electronic goods? Nikon, Canon and Sony are all Japanese, a strong yen, ie, unless they can significantly reduce costs, will be their goods more expensive for importing countries, which means, ultimately, prices in these countries must be raised to the to maintain profitability. Some companies use currency futures to protect the value of the contracts for a specified period of time, basically paying a fee in exchange rate over a contract to lock, and thisprovide some short-term hedge against foreign exchange rates on existing contracts. But to protect the futures only against short-term volatility of exchange rates, ultimately, no new contracts will be in the new exchange rates.

It also means sales abroad when converted back to yen for their accounts, their gross sales figures are lower - converted with Nikon U.S. $ 10m in sales reports, for example, with a stronger yen, which means less turnover (in yen), ifYen and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The other issue we see is the reduction in demand - every new trend to feel, especially the American consumer. This means revenue declines, many people will either abstain, purchases, or buy a lower spec model. This is a big, negative pressure increases on prices, if so, you are a Japanese electronics manufacturer, you will see the cost of the export increase and reduce their demand to hit both the top and bottom lines. And what do you dodo?

The first thing you do is you, your costs and inventory under control. Increase is the last thing you want is to have to pay for the stock more inventory is not for sale, and have the production exceeds the demand that only your inventory.

Production lines are well known, expensive to start, stop - you have a huge ongoing fixed costs, etc.) only by the possession of the factory (mortgage, taxes, insurance, maintenance, whether it is used or not. Restriction of production, ie the dismissal of people, severance payPackages etc, then reboot the huge additional cost of hiring, training, and get a production line back up to speed. It's much better to shorten hour shifts, and keep as much stability in the production line as possible, rather than have the enormous cost to turn it off /.

The first thing you do is clear your current inventory, and that is exactly what we will see with the current rebates from Canon and Nikon. You are falling prices of goods already manufacturedaround 10%, to lift them out of the door so you can reduce your storage costs and a short-term increase in sales (if not) profits.

Then make your production - perhaps cutting a shift to reduce hours, reduce volume to protect shift from the top and bottom products in more affordable and higher margin products to sales and margins of the best you can. You know your prices around the world will be towards the top, and the demand is falling, you need to stay ahead of the curve, if youcan.

That means you must include in your competitive factor. There are currently DSLR bodies will be replaced very often - less than every two years. An obvious step would be to slow down their release cycle - maybe route, which set out on 3 years, but a major step to help you run bigger and more profitable production. You can not, however, if your competitors are not playing ball and going aggressively for market share gain, with the help of new technologies, even if they make losses. If youcan afford it and do not feel the competitor, can be purchased for a period of time to gain market share in a loss if things again so you will be in a much stronger market position. However, that is a very risky maneuver in uncertain times.

Looking at recent releases by the major DSLR manufacturers in the past year or so, Sony was very aggressive, with many options for DSLR s', and the new 24.6-megapixel A900. Canon has released the 15-megapixel50D, and the 21-megapixel 5D Mark II this year, a new sensor, and a greatly improved version of the sensor from the 1Ds Mark III. Nikon is not yet published a new sensor since D300/D3 a year ago, has seen this year, the D700 with the sensor of the D3 and the D90 with the D300 sensor, but nothing new. There are rumors of something "BIG" will be occurring, either a 20 + megapixel D3X or an MX medium format system, but that's an expensive, top model of the camera, which is not a hugeVolume Driver (Nikon D3 began production around 8000 posts per month, started the D300 at 60,000) per month. Thus potentially Nikon in a more difficult position than their main competitors Canon - they do slow their release cycle in order to reduce costs and the storm and runs the risk of market share to Canon newer, higher spec points in the middle range, or are you responding receive new posts in the coming months and risk profits / cash reserves or build market share?

What we know forsure there is no quick solution to the current economic problems. The yen is strengthening, and looks like it will continue to do so. This means that the current inventory has been postponed once and the current discount expires, the prices of electronic goods are up. By how much and for how long remains to be seen, but if you are a big electronics purchase in the next few months looked at by a Japanese manufacturer, which could now only be a good time. I may be wrong, no one can predict the future, but there are a lot of upward pressure on prices of Japanese goods will move into the year 2009 mainly due to the lower volume per goods such as lenses and bodies.

Canon, Nikon & Sony Prosumer Full-Frame DSLR's

Introduction:

The full-frame digital SLR camera market heats up - by the end of the year three major suppliers, Nikon, Canon and Sony, all the prosumer full frame DSLR's on the market, all at a similar price.

The 12.1-megapixel Nikon D700, based on proven technology from both the Nikon D3 and D300, which was announced in July, and is already available. With an original MSRP of $ 2,999.95, only 3 months after their Announcement street prices have already fallen around the $ 2,750 mark.

Rumored for months, the 24.6 megapixel Sony Alpha A900 was finally officially on 9 Announced September with a MSRP of $ 2,999.95 and should be shipping within the next few weeks.

A few days later, Canon announced the 21.1MP Canon EOS 5D Mark II offers a very comprehensive feature set, and the addition of 1080p HD video, while undercutting both the Nikon and the> Sony, with its € 2699.99 RRP. The camera should ship by the end of the year.

Three very different cameras, all of which are on a very similar price point, an interesting choice for the consumer or Professional with up to 3,000 U.S. dollars on a prosumer DSLR spend.

Nikon D700:

The Nikon D700 is the excellent years old sensor from the Nikon D3 in a body similar to the Nikon D300. With the optional MB-D10 battery pack (which also fits the Nikon D300), whichD700 can reach an impressive 8 frames / s, while the recording is filled by 14-bit files, at least until the buffer.

High ISO performance on the D700 is excellent, like the Nikon D3. The Nikon D700 is also proved autofocus and exposure metering. However, it is the lowest resolution camera in the group, only 12 megapixels, and it has a lot of potential buyers will turn.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II:

The 21.1MP sensor has a resolution similar to the flagship Canon EOS1Ds Mark III, but it has a much broader ISO range. In fact, exceeds the ISO range, the Nikon D3 and D700 at ISO 50-25,600 (vs. ISO 100-25,600) for the Nikon.

The sensor in the 5D Mark II is a year younger than the sensor in the D700, and if in poor light conditions, the ability to come even in the Nikon D700, then Canon has a very impressive camera in his hands with a much higher resolution than the Nikon too close. There are very few sample pictures floating round of the Canon, so it is tooearly to be sure, but the Canon has a lot of potential - we will soon see how much difference another year makes the sensor development.

The big news of the Canon is the 1080p HD video mode. For many, this feature is a gimmick at best, but for some this is a very powerful tool - the ability to a wide range of high-quality lenses, use and control of the depth of field, that just does not exist on the consumer video cameras today. This will be a major selling point for some, and anice to have for many.

Sony Alpha A900:

The Sony has the highest resolution of the three cameras, but falls into two broad categories: The ISO performance is much smaller than its main rivals, and it offers only 12-bit A / D conversion. For the vast majority of shooters, which is 12-bit A / D not much, if any real world difference. The problem is one of perception, a $ 3,000 full-frame DSLR is almost to be expected that 14Bit A / D conversion on the market today.

Comparing the cameras:

You drive in your new luxury car, and asks the first question, your neighbor, "How much HP has this thing have?" With cameras, it's megapixels - right or wrong, which is the main selling point for the average consumer, with ISO function is a very close seconds.

In reality, only need very few photographers for more than 12 megapixels. If you are publishing on the Web, 3-megapixelusually more than enough - my big 1920 x 1200 monitor is about 2.3 megapixels. A 1080p HD TV is less than 2.1 megapixels.

Most high-quality prints with 300 dpi print (dots per inch), 150 dpi print yet still very good. At 300dpi, requires an 8x10 photo just over 7 megapixels. A 16x20 print at 150 dpi requires 7.2 megapixels. How many people go to buy these cameras to print beyond?

The main advantage of more megapixels is the ability to harvest. This is especially useful for nature, wildlife and sports photographers that need as much reach as possible. What matters to them is pixel density - the more "pixels on target" you can get with your longest lens, the more you can crop and the more effective reach you have. However none of these cameras have the highest pixel density out there - if you need reach, you'd be better served with a Nikon D300 or the new Canon 50D. To get the same pixel density as the Canon 50D in a full frame sensor, She had a full-frame camera to almost 40 mega pixels.

Whether you like it or not, the attribute of the camera that makes the headlines megapixel number. From a marketing perspective, that is the Nikon D700 at a major disadvantage for the Canon 5D Mark II. On paper, Canon also wins in the ISO race, but only just. Until the camera is somewhere out there on the market, we will not know for sure how well the low ISO performance is. The Canon also has 1080p video, in which it was said, asbefore, is a key selling point for some, and irrelevant to others.

Where the Canon beats the Nikon is everywhere else that matters: It has a higher maximum frame rate (especially if you add the MB-D10 grip to get 8fps which) more than doubled in the canons, and has on paper a superior AF system and metering system. In the same way, with more horsepower is pointless if the car is not that the power claimed on the street, you (think transmission, chassis, tires, tractionControl), the Nikon D700 is still a very compelling package, especially for those who shoot sports or action.

The Sony A900 will win the megapixel race, but the Canon is very close behind him. However, it loses badly, when you factor in the ISO performance. Canon also has a much wider range of very high quality lenses to back up the camera, and offers 14-bit A / D conversion verses 12-bit on the Sony for those ultimate image quality. It also has video support, and isabout 10% cheaper, so that the Canon actually makes the Sony A900, a non-starter for most people.

Then it comes back to the Nikon versus Canon. Both companies have a wide range of professional quality lenses and accessories to secure the camera. The Nikon is the clear choice for sports shooters. The landscape or studio photographer will incline to offer the higher resolution of Canon. If the ISO performance proves to be both for the Nikon D700 and similarCanon 5D Mark II, then for the wedding photographer and photo-journalists, that in low-light capabilities, the Canon extra resolution there must be at the edge. Unless, that is, they explicitly do not want to have to deal with larger image files (requires more space on memory cards to load more, for a lengthy post-processing etc).

For all other to meet either the Nikon or Canon, or rather on their needs, but Canon has the marketing advantage with the headlineNumber. If you have a lot of time spent shooting in public, then you know someone will come to you at some point and say, "Nice camera, how many megapixels is that thing have?"

Buy a Full Frame DSLR Camera - It's a Good Time to Upgrade

Are you waiting patiently under it, buy a full frame DSLR camera? Do not wait any longer ... Now there are three good models for under $ 3000!

This mid-range models are in the economic "sweet spot" of the digital SLR offerings. This means that the full frame DSLR's have top-of-the-line features and quality, but at mid-range sets are available .. . at least for the moment.

All full-frame DSLR's have a digital sensor the same size as a frameof 35mm. This means the sensor is large enough (wide enough to see) to "the full width of the image focused by the lens. Without a full-frame sensor, you will lose a significant amount of your wide-angle ability.

The three mid-range cameras:

Canon 5D Mark II
Nikon D700
Sony A900 (New)

The full professional models:

Canon 1Ds Mark III
Nikon D3
Nikon D3X (New)

The shooters are packedprovide the latest and greatest of their companies have. And fans will be thrilled to find that the mid-range models differ surprisingly little from each of their full siblings.

There are two ways, they differ significantly in size and weight. They are lighter and smaller, largely due to the lack of additional battery packs. This can be a real plus if you travel with your camera or carrying it for long periods of time.

The mid-range cameras are all builtrobust, but are not built to the same extremes as the full professional models. So if your photo is you in any weather, over long periods of time in dusty environments, you want to view a full pro camera.

If you have a full-frame DSLR camera is to get a significant upgrade in picture quality. It is no coincidence that the sensors in these six cameras, the six highest performance image sensors are rated at DxO Labs. They have simply the bestImaging technology now available.

Nikon D700 - The Best Digital SLR Ever?

If your looking for the best of the best, and money is not an option, and then into the digital photography, or just a large inheritance, and have decided to buy the camera of your dreams, then I understand I am under, why are you on would find in the Nikon D700 SLR. While it with a price of $ 3000, I am sure you really do not care. The people who buy this camera, either an unlimited budget, or are professional photographers. Otherwise, it is quite out of reach for the averageConsumers.

It is priced very high, but not without reason. One of the biggest reasons that the full-frame sensor, which is standard issue on the D700. What does full-frame, that the image sensor the same size as the film would under a conventional 35-mm film camera. Very few digital cameras with a full-frame sensor, because of its prohibitive cost to manufacture. One of the nicest things about full frame is that you each lens that was developed with the 35mm format, thein the eye.

Another impressive is the usable ISO range of the D700, according to manufacturer guidelines, the clocks in at 100 to 25,600. While this area may sound impressive, it is difficult to use by 12,800. Speed is another thing the D700 is good. What will not it good? There are a few, but hanging a bit. You will be able to pack it in 5 frames of images per second and with an impressive fifty-one point autofocus, I bet that most of the pictures are in focus.

DuringThere are a few problems may find some nit picky with the D700, they are hardly worth mentioning. Ok, I will. While the balance may currently flaky, and you can get a higher resolution of some of the competition. The competitors are the Canon 5D and Sony A900.

Where are the perfect camera is never an easy thing, especially with the way digital technology is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are many helpful sites online that can narrow your searchand help you with all the features the camera is important to you

Nikon DSLR Predictions For 2009

Nikon release plan always considers it strictly confidential, but on past experience, below are our predictions for the year 2009. Make note of the weak economy and could slow the decline in sales of Nikon's release schedule, but they are also in a battle for market share with Canon, which puts pressure on them in the other direction, the 50D (not exactly set the world on fire , but the 5D Mark II is still a lot of) attention:

Pro Bodies:

Nikon D3

The D3 is again 2Years before the end of the year, but it is still the low light king (and on past experience, it is based mostly 3-4 years between major updates per body). Street prices for the D3 have dropped the $ 4k mark to do so Nikon has something to get back the price point up to $ 5k around the brand, and there is room for improving the D3. We predict (a D3h or perhaps D3s) release, which are a D3 with the following features:

The 2GB buffer update, which you currently receive, for the D3are standard.
The newer, improved EXPEED processors from the D3x a small improvement in yield and IQ slightly extending the already impressive battery life.
Since the D3 is primarily a tool photojournalists, the ability to capture video (1080p) would be extremely useful in the field, however, that video encoding hardware and microphones adding means, so that must be deferred to D4. It is a big plus point to a particular segment of the market, if Nikon can add perthe update.
If video is included, where appropriate, a slightly better sensor (as when the D90 into being launched on the basis of the D300 sensor)
Misc. small features / tweaks.
Priced at $ 5k, maybe $ 5.5k if video is included in the price.

Nikon D3x

Other than firmware versions, we expect this camera to remain unchanged, albeit with a steady fall in prices during the year.

Prosumer Bodies:

Nikon D400

The D300 hits its second birthday at the end of2009, before he met his second birthday, we expect that the D400 will be released. We expect the following:

Slight increase in megapixels - maybe 14MP with the same or slightly better ISO capabilities than the D300.
A better dynamics than the D300 (since the D90 has demonstrated that they add to improve it, a different year sensor development) into the equation.
Video is a must, probably at 1080p.
What we want: Retain compatibility with the MB-D10, and please attach a larger buffer - that isNikon DSLR of choice for most pro telephoto users, the larger buffer would be quite useful.
Price must be under $ 2k.

D700x/Nikon Nikon D800

Based on recent history, Nikon puts new sensors into the highest end of the first place, it is that the sensor will be later at the next level down body somewhere around 9 months, give or take a few months. The fact that the sensor would D3x would appear to a D700-style body mean (D700x or D800) sometime in the summer of 2009.There is also strong pressure from Sony (the A900) and Canon (with the 5D Mark II) in this middle range full-frame space, so bring a competitive product on the market here would be a very strong appeal. However, this leads to some basic questions:

The D3x is little more than a D3 with a new sensor, even at current street prices, costs nearly $ 4k more that a lot of premium for a sensor. Applying the same logic to the new camera, if it with pricea similar margin above the D700, that would put them at $ 6k, which would greatly restrict their market and are not in the same market space from Canon and Sony's offerings. Realistically, as has a competitor, the camera, their prices not be that far over the Canon and Sony - somewhere in the $ 3,000 to $ 3,500 range. If they price it is at $ 4k, then they will lose a large part of the potential market.
If they do it at $ 4k or less than the price that really hits the D3x (who needs weatherSealing and longer battery life in the studio?)
To add video or record on video. To win in competition with Canon and market share, they must be able to record on video. But if they add a video that the D3x will be made with their premium price even harder.

This is a difficult for Nikon, there is clearly a need for a cheaper version of the D3x, they have to protect their market share in the face of the 5D Mark II and A900, but the decision about the right price is the greatest challenge. We suspectwe will see the D3x sensor in a bit around mid year.

Consumer models:

Nikon D40 Replacement

We expect that this early 2009, probably with a 10.2MP sensor from the D200/D80/D60 lines.

Nikon D60 Replacement

A replacement for the Nikon D60 is available towards the end of 2009, with the sensor, the D90, perhaps with video.

Nikon D90 update

Nikon D90 An update is available in the second half of the year --Perhaps the D90s is, of basically the same camera but with a much improved video capabilities (auto-focus, improved monitoring of exposure, maybe even 1080p). This would also pave the way for a D60 with 720p.

Lenses:

This is a difficult to predict, but:

70-200 f2.8 VR Update

This lens takes particularly well on DX and film cameras, but users can RAND reported problems on FX. Nikon's pro zooms are usually every sixYear or so, then this lens is due. Moving with the D3x outside and to the limits of performances of more lenses can be used as the D3, it always makes a new version of this lens even more important.

Update with 85 f1.4 AF-S

A logical choice, which can be updated in the light of the next 50mm F1.4 AF-S, which has just been released.

Update with 80-400mm AF-S

This amazingly versatile lens is in a price range if they can appeal to the D90 and D60 owners, plus has aConcentrate reputation as slow, so would be a good candidate.

With a slow economy, added dark lenses, does not make less sense as profitable as in previous years. Nikon lenses will probably be decided that either (a) sell in large numbers to support the re-design / retrofitting costs faster, or (b) that the sale of the D3x or other key facilities. If you $ 8k for the job, the rates are improving, the lenses available to them again.

Overall, giventhe economy, we expect that fewer lenses in 2009, published as seen in 2008, but suspect, Nikon will keep their bodies ticking over development for competitive reasons. We will try later in the year to see how we did.
